What is a RESO?

A Resilience Support Organisation (RESO) is a whole educational organisation that has undertaken a two-day training programme in building educational resilience. RESO training is an introduction to resilience principles and is a first-tier approach to building protective mechanisms across the whole educational setting. RESO training develops and promotes relational practice and in doing so, establishes a safe and nurturing educational environment, which promotes a sense of belonging, it also supports and develops resilience in staff teams so that they too can feel better equipped for challenging situations. This produces a setting where the whole educational community can build relationships and thrive.

It is expected that each RESO will employ/train at least one RESTA so that they are equipped to support students at tier two and three and so that there is a point of contact between RESTA psychologists and the educational organisation. RESTAs will work collaboratively with RESTA psychologists to get further support for their organisation and to help to continue to embed RESTA principles.

All RESOs work towards a Quality Mark awarded by the RESO panel at Bronze, Silver or Gold.

The RESO quality mark was developed as a tool to support Resilience Support Organisations (RESOs) to assess both the quality and the impact of their work in supporting the protective factors that are needed for educational resilience.  The RESO quality mark promotes the continuous improvement of organisations and encourages them to maintain high standards and continuously improve the promotion of educational resilience factors within their setting.

The RESO Quality Mark is intended as a point of reference  for  RESOs to demonstrate good  practice and continued trauma awareness.  The RESO  Quality Mark is an indicator that the organisation knows, understands and applies the principles of RESO

A RESO is any setting that offers learning to young people aged 11-25 years, whether that be through formal schooling or through further education, employment, or training.  A RESO employs one or more RESTA and has undergone our RESO training. RESOs include schools, colleges, apprenticeship providers, youth workers and more.

RESO training can be provided online or in person (please email for estimated costs and to book a date).

What RESOs say about the approach:

“We think it will be relatively easy to embed resilience principles across our organisation as many of our mentors already have aspects of the RESO style approach in their practice. We have referred to several parts of the training sessions in our morning meetings since and it feels like most staff are drawing on it in their practice. We particularly like the phrase ‘every interaction is an intervention’ and we are using that to remember that each session with a student is an opportunity for building connections.”

“I would recommend the training and express how impressed we were by how positive psychology is deeply embedded in the theory of RESO.”
