What is a Resta

Resilience Support Teaching Assistants (RESTAs) are staff members of your education setting. They will receive sustained training and supervision to deliver a programme of psychoeducation; building and enhancing the essential skills needed for educational resilience in young people. RESTAs are trained to work at tier two and three of the programmes and deliver intervention both in small groups and to individuals. RESTAs are also the point of contact between the organisation they work for and the RESTA psychological team, they work together to ensure that RESO principles are supported and embedded within their organisation.

RESTAs receive six days of training in core psychological concepts known to build educational resilience in learners. They also receive training in core skills. We define a RESTA as “a practitioner who can understand and apply person centred positive psychology tools and approaches such as acceptance, compassion, and relational collaboration within the spirit of motivational interviewing.”

“I think it will make a big difference; it is really helpful listening to different ideas from different people to what works well for them. We have been provided with a large number of resources which can be adapted and have been given ideas which I have not thought of before. I really enjoy listening to the psychology theories which give you a wider knowledge of why children act in a certain way. The course does make you more aware of your own behaviours around school, for example that smile in the corridor can make such a big difference.”

“I’m learning so much, and I can already see how I will be able to use this knowledge to support certain students.”

“I really enjoyed the first session and I feel like I have already learnt a lot through networking with the other people on the call who are in the same setting as I am.”

“I am already a trained ELSA delivering psychoeducation in my school, but this training is another level. This programme is going to have a real impact for students, and I cannot wait to deliver it.”
